Brings joy back: effective audiological counseling during selection phase

Getting a hearing aid alone does not equal to successful hearing aid experience. So, what does it take to achieve successful hearing outcome, you ask?  Effective Audiological counselling.

In our earlier article, we shared what effective Audiological counselling does in different phases , starting from the diagnosis phase (read this article here).  Today, we will touch on the next phase: hearing aid solution’s selection.

Selection Phase

Explain the style and technology of hearing aids required to achieve optimal hearing experience. When some users first heard about technology feature such as wireless streaming or Bluetooth that can connect to their TV, tablet or hand phone, some straightaway feel it sounds so complicated or will be difficult to use, even before they try it on. Other than fear of new technology, some worry about the health, safety and privacy data aspects.

Effective counselling helps the user and their family members to understand the role of these technologies and reassure user the advanced technologies are designed to make the aids BOTH easy to use and effective to use.

Take for example: Wireless Bluetooth Connectivity. The introduction of Bluetooth technology in modern digital hearing aids is probably one of the most important features in optimizing hearing needs and enhancing hearing lifestyles. The technology involved may be complicated but it is important to know hearing aid manufacturers understand user’s pain points and have made such complicated technology easy to use and effective to use. The wireless streaming process from TV to both hearing aids is transparent to the user. This means less handling, more effortless hearing.

Case Study: the happiness in his face is everything!

Mr Lee, suffering from severe to profound hearing loss for the last 30 years. Never thought that he would be able to use his mobile phone to talk to his daughter again. With Bluetooth technology, the sound from the phone can be easily stream to his hearing aids and he can make phone conversations, listen to YouTube videos just like anyone else “The happiness in his face says it all”.

At the start of the consultation, when he was asked whether does the size of the hearing aid matters to him, he said yes, the smaller the better. Guess what, now that he realizes he can hear so well, size no longer matters!
