Can you just make it louder? Truth is…
July 12, 2025
” Can you just make it louder?”, “a simple hearing aids with no fancy feature is enough…”
This is a common request we often received. Truth is, hearing loss is complex…
Many people walk into our clinic asking for a simple hearing aid that just makes everything louder. They believe that if sound is amplified, they’ll be able to hear like everyone else. Features like Bluetooth streaming, directional microphones, or AI-based noise reduction often seem unnecessary or too complicated — and some worry they will only add cost.
But the truth is: hearing loss is complex.
Most people with hearing difficulties have sensorineural hearing loss, typically caused by aging or prolonged noise exposure. It’s not just about making sounds louder — it’s about how the brain processes sound, especially in noisy environments.
With sensorineural hearing loss, people may experience:
• Reduced loudness (sounds must be amplified)
• Poor frequency resolution (difficulty hearing pitch, even if loud enough)
• Increased sensitivity to background noise, making conversations harder to follow
The biggest challenge remains: understanding speech in noise — in places like coffee shops or restaurants. Louder sound alone won’t help; in fact, it may worsen discomfort or distortion. That’s why modern hearing aids must:
• Boost speech volume
• Suppress background noise
• Improve clarity
Technologies that make a difference:
• Bluetooth streaming for phone and TV audio
• Adaptive directional microphones
• I-powered noise reduction (Deep Neural Networks)

Mr. Lee’s Story
Mr Lee, has been suffering from severe to profound hearing loss for 30 years. Never thought he would be able to use his mobile phone to talk to his daughter again or enjoying TV programs with family members without tuning up the volume.
With hearing aids that are equipped with Bluetooth technology, the sound quality from the mobile phone or TV are optimised and easily stream to his hearing aids. He can now make phone conversations and watching TV programs just like anyone else “The happiness in his face tells everything”. The ease and clarity of sounds is significantly improved as compared to the older hearing aids that are not equipped with Bluetooth streaming technology.

At first, features like wireless streaming may seem intimidating. The wireless streaming process is transparent to the user. Once set up with Audiologist guidance, they work seamlessly — making everyday hearing effortless and enjoyable again.
